Bears name new chief; CRICKET.Byline: By Brian Halford FORMER chief executive of Carlsberg UK Colin Povey Colin Povey is the Chief Executive of Warwickshire County Cricket Club. He was formerly Chief Executive of Carlsberg. Povey captained England at Water Polo and played for and coached the Great Britain side. He is the brother of Kevin Povey. will be unveiled as the new chief executive of Warwickshire tomorrow. The appointment of Povey, 45, to replace the outgoing Dennis Amiss Dennis Leslie Amiss (born April 7 1943 in Harborne, Birmingham, Warwickshire) was an English cricketer and cricket administrator. He played cricket for both Warwickshire County Cricket Club and England. in April, means the county has followed its expected course of choosing a new chief with a background in business rather than cricket. Povey is not without sporting credentials - he has represented his country at water polo water polo, swimming game encompassing features of soccer, football, basketball, and hockey. The object of the game is to maneuver, by head, feet, or hand, a leather-covered ball 27 to 28 in. -but his involvement in cricket up to now has been restricted to that of an enthusiast. He is chairman of Northamptonshire club side East Haddon. With county cricket in its customary state of financial uncertainty, it was Povey's business acumen which was the key factor in him emerging successful from the four-strong short list. Educated at Lancaster Grammar School and Liverpool University, Povey first joined Carlsberg UK as human resources director before graduating to commercial director and then chief executive. He left the company two years ago. He has been at Edgbaston this week to check out his new patch and will work closely with the outgoing Amiss until the latter formally retires. Even then Amiss will be regularly on hand as a consultant to help Povey, who is a non-executive director of Northampton Saints rugby club, to make the transition into sport.
