The need of Bean bag chairs arises because there occurs a frequent lose in the flexible material of the bags called pellets because of which the bean bag collapses. The bean bag chairs is a combination of the older bags and a supporting structure to elevate the bag above the floor level. The new material which is used in these chairs fulfill the ''fill'' property of bags. The supporting structure typically comprises of a particular metal , wood or plastic circumferential rim which is affixed or removably attached to one or more base members..The rim is adjusted in such a way to provide support to the rear end of the bag. The diameter chosen for the chair is less than that of the bag to provide it additional support. When a person sits on it the pellets displaces generally in the upward direction to provide vertical support which enhances the comfort level.The straps from the rim are suspended in outward direction to provide additional support.

The present day bean bag chairs hold the capacity to provide extra comfort in aquatic as well as outdoor environment. These bags have long life which means that they does not get damaged when comes in the contact of of sunrays, heat, salt, wind and water. The outdoor bean bag cover is made from a water proof material. This cover is half filled with pellets which is almost same to the procedure used in traditional bean bags. The covers specialty lies in its flexibility. It acquires a closed volume when a person sits on it to offer resistance to that persons weight. Due to this property bean bag chairs are difficult to break.

Generally the choice of fabric is based upon the conditions, situations and environment. But nylon fabric is more preferred because the quantity of pellets required to fill these bags are very less which helps in attaining extra comfort level which is not possible with old day bean bags. The woven nylon cover also allows water to flow inside the bean-bag when it is used in an aquatic environment. The water ultimately gets evaporated when the cover is removed from that environment.
