Real estate developer and former chairman of the Memphis and Shelby County Land Use Control Board presents a memoir of his work redeveloping Beale Street in Memphis Tennessee. Beale Street, the site of black-owned music clubs, restaurants, and shops in the early 1900s, had become run down by the 1970s and Elkington discusses how government, business, and nonprofits worked together to turn it once again into a vibrant home of music and commerce and a significant tourist destination in Memphis.
