Beavers make bid

to host WNIT WNIT Women's National Invitation Tournament (college basketball)  game

CORVALLIS - Oregon State officials said earlier this week that a bid to participate and be a host team for the opening rounds of the Women's National Invitation Tournament The Women's National Invitation Tournament (WNIT) is a college basketball tournament with a preseason and postseason version played every year. It is operated in a similar fashion to the men's NIT.  had been submitted.

The Beavers, who meet the WNIT criteria for eligibility with a .500 regular-season record or better at 15-14, are expected to learn late Monday if they will join the 40-team, single-elimination event. The WNIT field will be determined following Monday's NCAA Tournament selections.

Oregon State has participated in six previous WNIT events. The Beavers won the tournament twice - in 1980 and 1982 - when it was called the National Women's Invitational Tournament.

Springfield to host

Special Olympics Oregon

The Special Olympics Oregon State Games continue this weekend in Springfield, with 800 athletes competing in basketball and powerlifting pow·er·lift·ing
