"Many community banks are now realizing the inefficiencies and expenses associated with outsourced Internet banking providers and seeing that an in-house system offers better control over information, increased operational efficiencies and significant cost savings."

Unlike widely used ASP-based Internet banking systems, which charge toll fees every time a customer completes a transaction, the in-house approach gives banks control over customer information and costs. Compass empowers banks to increase adoption rates and recruit online customers with a set payment structure and its built-in marketing support.

"Growing the online side of our business made no sense when we considered the exorbitant usage fees charged by our previous ASP provider," said Denise Dickey, information technology manager, Commercial Banking Company. "Bringing the system in-house allows us to save money while increasing our online customer base."

Beacon Software launched its Compass Internet Banking Platform in the fall of 2003 with implementation in six Southeastern banks to-date.
