"We've been working closely with Beacon Power over the past several months developing our "UPS Suite" of power electronics, to be installed in Beacon Power's flywheel energy storage Flywheel Energy Storage (FES) works by accelerating a rotor (flywheel) to a very high speed and maintaining the energy in the system as rotational energy. The energy is converted back by slowing down the flywheel.  system," said David Eisenhaure, SatCon's President and Chief Executive Officer. "Over the last year, we delivered our first five-piece demonstration order followed recently by the completion of a 35-piece pre-production prototype order. These initial units were designed with an open architecture to allow for modifications during the development of the overall system specifications. Having met those specifications with our pre-production prototype models, these new 65 units will be built to reflect a production representative design. These new units will be built for manufacturability at higher volume levels using our assembly line out at our Marlborough facility. The units will also be designed to be field serviceable ser·vice·a·ble
