Beach patrols.BEACH safety is being stepped up by a new police partnership. Lifeguards in North Tyneside North Tyneside is a metropolitan borough of Tyne and Wear in the North East of England. Its seat is at the Town Hall, Wallsend. Created in 1974, the borough lies within the historic county boundaries of Northumberland. are using their radios to keep in close contact with police over the busy holiday season. Northumbria Police Northumbria Police is the Home Office police force responsible for policing the areas of Northumberland and Tyne and Wear in England. The service is the sixth largest police constabulary in England or Wales. As of April 2005, the current Chief Constable is Mike Craik. is working with the council's 22 lifeguards in Whitley Bay, Cullercoats and Tynemouth to ensure officers can respond as quickly as possible to any emergency. PC Mick Surtees of Whitley Bay Neighbourhood Policing Team said: "It means the lifeguards can promptly tell us about problems on the beach, including lost children and any anti-social behaviour." |
