) will hold a fund-raising Legal Defense Fund Beach Party featuring a Polynesian dance revue revue, a stage presentation that originated in the early 19th cent. as a light, satirical commentary on current events. It was rapidly developed, particularly in England and the United States, into an amorphous musical entertainment, retaining a small amount of  and native cuisine on Saturday, March 27, during its Southeast Regional Conference.

All proceeds from the event will go to the SPJ Legal Defense Fund to help defend the freedoms guaranteed by the First Amendment.

"The Legal Defense Fund steps up to the plate when others won't to protect individuals from unjust prosecution when exercising their First Amendment rights. It also is a line of defense in protecting the public's right to know about government activities and records," said Darcie Lunsford, VP of South Florida SPJ. The SPJ Legal Defense Fund Beach Party will be held in the center courtyard of Fort Lauderdale's Beach Place promenade and will run from 6:30 to 10 p.m. The famed Mai-Kai Polynesian Revue will perform at the event and feature island dancers, fire twirlers and musicians. The luau-themed menu will feature crab, ribs and Hawaiian fried rice. A cash bar will feature mai tais mai tai

The Legal Defense Fund, which fields at least 60 request a year for help, was recently enlisted close to home when student journalists at The Independent Florida Alligator alligator, large aquatic reptile of the genus Alligator, in the same order as the crocodile. Tickets for the SPJ Legal Defense Fund Beach Party are $30 for professionals, $25 for SPJ members and $20 for students when reserved by March 21. Tickets can be purchased at the event for $35. The event is sponsored by The Miami Herald.
