The discovery of gold at Sutter's Mill (see Sutter, John Augustus) along the river in 1848 led to the California gold rush of Running Association's ongoing public service efforts to help more Americans benefit from a running lifestyle by providing 10 numbers for this year's closed-out race to American Running members who donate $1,000 or more to the Association.
