Agencies will be asked to log on to NRPA's Web site and apply for the national competition. Once entered, the community will be judged on its ability to promote fair play, sportsmanship, skill development, parent involvement and positive values. Each agency will also be judged on consistency of policies and inclusiveness at the youth level.

This is NRPA's second partnership with the magazine and hopes to build on the success of Sportstown USA, where communities in each state applied to be designated a Sportstown. After receiving 250 applicants from across the 50 states, and expanding visibility for parks and recreation through local events that encompassed more than 200,000 community spectators, nearly 900 local organizations and several hundred local and national celebrities, NRPA and Sports Illustrated still want to do more.

"NRPA is once again privileged to partner with Sports Illustrated to enhance the quality of youth sports in America. Working with such a world class media organization has already provided extraordinary visibility for parks and recreation. It is simply beyond compare that this partnership is expanding to include another world class corporate partner, DODGE DODGE Department Of Defense Gravity Experiment , to launch the national initiative GOOD SPORTS. During 2005, communities nationwide will be able to join in this grassroots movement to rally parents, coaches and sport organizations around making sports a positive force for youth development and community pride."
