Baystate Technologies, Inc. announced today it will release CADKEY(r) 97 Release 2 in December 1997. This is the second major release of the CADKEY 97 mechanical PC-CAD product line since its introduction in May 1997. This feature-rich edition introduces many advanced solid modeling creation capabilities, freeform solid model editing, detailing productivity enhancements, and tablet support. The product will retail for $1,995 and is available for Windows(TM) 95 and NT 3.5/4.x. CADKEY is used extensively in diverse applications for 2D and 3D mechanical design, drafting, conceptual sketching, assemblies, analysis, reverse engineering, tolerancing inspections, rapid prototyping, and downstream manufacturing applications.

Freeform Hybrid Modeler Introduces a New Spectrum of Advanced Solid Modeling Features

CADKEY 97's freeform hybrid blend of wireframe, solid and surfacing technology will be updated to ACIS(r) 3.0 (Spatial Technology, Boulder, CO) and integrate several new ACIS solid modeling components. Solid modeling improvements include creation tools such as offset wall shelling, punching through a solid with a 2D profile, projecting a solid face onto another solid face, adding a draft angle to existing faces of a solid, and more.

In addition to adding capabilities to rapidly create solid models, Baystate has added functionality to easily edit solid models in a "freeform way". For example, the new Remove Feature option in CADKEY 97 R2 allows the user to select a chamfer or fillet for deletion and it will be instantly removed. The underlying geometry will automatically heal back to a sharp edge. This powerful function enables the user to work with geometry as if it were a "block of clay" while using the modeling technique of their choice at any time to create or modify a 3D model.

RenderWare, an optional rendering vehicle for solid shading and dynamic rotation of shaded models, is also included in CADKEY 97 R2. Macro support is available for solid model creation which streamlines repetitive design procedures for greater productivity and user customization.

CADKEY 97 R2 now supports VRML (Virtual Reality Modeling Language) output of solid models for design collaboration over the World Wide Web. The product includes a full suite of industrial-strength translators3/4 ACIS-SAT, IGES, DXF(TM), DWG, STL, CADL, VRML, and the AutoCAD(r) R13 DWG format. CADKEY 97 is the only PC-CAD system with the ability to output 3D wireframe geometry to VRML models.

Top Customer-driven Enhancements - Tablet and Digitizer Support, More Drafting Improvements

A wide range of most-requested customer enhancements will be introduced in CADKEY 97 R2. WinTab Tablet support gives users the ability to assign CADKEY functions to a tablet overlay, as well as digitize existing paper drawings into CADKEY. Other productivity improvements include a quick pick Pattern dialog box for setting options and importing patterns; a Views switch to list only predefined or user-defined views; and new Levels List capabilities and editing. Users can now create a dialog box interface for their CADL (CADKEY Advanced Design Language) and macro programs.

Layout mode for creating engineering drawings offers a new `dimension check' to notify a user if a dimension has become disassociated from the 3D model. Geometric entities and their associated dimensions can be tagged to a view instance in a drawing. A new quick hatch feature is supported in Layout mode with the option to edit the pattern type, angle and spacing of the X-hatching on-the-fly. The program also supports printing and plotting of dashed line types with user-defined spacing.
