Bayer and Degussa sell PolymerLatex joint venture. (Acquisitions, Expansions).

German chemical and pharmaceutical company. Founded in 1863 by Friedrich Bayer (1825–1880), it now operates plants in more than 30 countries. Bayer has originated scores of pharmaceuticals, chemicals, and synthetic materials; it was the first developer and , Leverkusen Leverkusen (lā'fərk `zən), city (1994 pop. 161,760), North Rhine–Westphalia, W Germany, on the Rhine River. It is an industrial center and a road and rail junction. , Germany, and Degussa AG, Dusseldorf, Germany, are selling PolymerLatex GmbH, their Marl, Germany-based 50:50 joint venture, to the financial investment company Soros Private Equity Partners for approximately $235 million. The sale of PolymerLatex completes the divestment divestment to strip one's investment from an entity. program which Bayer launched at the end of 2001 as part of its group-wide reorganization and strategic realigmnent projects.
