Bayer AG names Wenning chairman.

Werner Wenning was appointed chairman of Bayer AG's board of management, to take effect next spring. He succeeds Manfred Manfred (măn`frəd, Ger. män`frāt), c.1232–1266, king of Sicily (1258–66), the last Hohenstaufen on that throne. An illegitimate son of Holy Roman Emperor Frederick II, Manfred was regent in Sicily for his brother Conrad IV. Schneider, who has run the company since April of 1992.

Wenning joined Bayer AG in 1966 as a commercial trainee. He later headed the finance and accounting department of Bayer Industrial S.A. Beginning in 1975, Wenning worked in corporate auditing for Bayer AG and then returned to Bayer Industrial S.A. as managing director.

Wenning was then named head of staff development for the company's healthcare sector. He held a series of marketing and management positions before being named to his current position of chief financial officer. He is also chairman of the Board Committee for Finance for the company.
