BayBio will focus on improvement of business conditions in the industry and advocacy as a trade association, and the BayBio Institute will focus on life science educational efforts in Northern California Northern California, sometimes referred to as NorCal, is the northern portion of the U.S. state of California. The region contains the San Francisco Bay Area, the state capital, Sacramento; as well as the substantial natural beauty of the redwood forests, the northern . The two entities are separately incorporated and have independent Boards which will work together to enhance the overall effectiveness of each organization. BayBio and the BayBio Institute will collaborate on activities that support the life sciences in the region. "This is a major step for more than just the organization," said Matthew M. Gardner, who will serve as President of both BayBio and the BayBio Institute. "The industry can be very proud of the work of the Institute," added Fred Dorey, founder and first president of the original Bay Area Bioscience Center. "This change allows the BayBio Institute to focus on some of the original objectives of the Center and to bring energy and resources to bear on educational challenges."
