TOM McGILL'S outrageous goal midway through the first half proved enough to clinch Colwyn Bay Colwyn Bay (kôl`wĭn), Welsh Bae Colwyn, town (1991 pop. 27,002), Conwy, N Wales. It is a popular seaside resort. Neil Young's side moved five points clear at the top of Unibond Division One North and boosted their unbeaten run in the league to 12 matches.

Saturday's game produced few clear chances, but the visitors enjoyed the better of the opening stages before Colwyn Bay began to get a grip on proceedings.

Josh Macauley skimmed the bar for the hosts before the only goal arrived on 22 minutes when McGill scored with a cheeky back-heel from 12 yards which completely outfoxed the Bridge defence and goalkeeper.

The Bay almost doubled their lead before the break when midfielder Jimmy Kelly's 35-yard screamer was well saved by Mike Hale in the Bamber Bridge goal.

The visitors almost equalised in bizarre circumstances early in the second period when Seagulls defender Louis Corrigan's attempted clearance caught the strong wind and fortunately rebounded back off the post and away to safety.

On 56 minutes Bamber's Terry Watt had a golden opportunity to equalise when a cross from the flank came to him six yards out from the Bay goal, but with just goalkeeper Chris Sanna to beat, the striker miscued horribly and the chance was gone.

Sanna, who had an outstanding all-round game, had to be at his best on the hour mark when he pulled off a superb stop from a 30-yard Martin Moran rocket.

Neil Young's men nearly doubled their lead in the 78th minute when substitute Neil Black released fellow replacement Ian Sheridan, whose firm strike from the edge of the 18-yard box was smartly saved by Hale.
