LLANDYRNOG made the Seagulls work hard for their victory in this Amicus North Wales Challenge Cup fourth round tie at wet and windy Cae Nant.

``It was fairly even all the way through and if we had put away some chances, the outcome may have been different, '' said United's skipper Roger Beech.

The Unibond League outfit, with Carl Rogers dominant in midfield, carved out more opportunities in the first half but keeper Jamie Hulse was in excellent form as he saved shots from Chris Moores and Dylan Owen. The best opening for the Cymru Alliance hosts fell to Dafydd Jones five minutes from the interval but he failed to control the ball in the box and his drive was saved by Matt Parry. The crucial breakthrough came in the 51st minute when, from the last of three corners, Calvin Davies' header was cleared off the line by Jones but the linesman ruled that the ball had gone over.

United had a good spell when Neil Hughes fired over the bar from 20 yards, a Ceri James shot was brilliantly saved by Parry, and Hughes hit a post with the keeper stranded in the 80th minute.

Four minutes later, Bay grabbed the killer second goal as Davies fed Moores who coolly chipped the ball over the advancing keeper.
