IDT's broad microprocessor family has been an integral part of the two companies' long-standing relationship in providing leading-edge communications devices.

"One of the key reasons we've worked with IDT for so many years is the upgradeability its broad, software- and pin-compatible microprocessor line offers us, improving our time to market," said Byron Gayman, director of engineering for Bay Networks' Broadband Technology Division. "IDT has also provided us with excellent service and support at a competitive price."

"With the industry's first MCNS/DOCSIS-based product, Bay Networks will lead the way in bringing digital bandwidth to the home and small office/home office See SOHO.  environments," said Nick Kucharewski, vice president of IDT's microprocessor division. "IDT is pleased to be the premier supplier of microprocessors for Bay Networks' ground-breaking cable modems. We look forward to providing both Bay Networks and the market at large with processors optimized for future-generation cable modems."

The Bay Networks Broadband Technology Division's Generation 4 cable modem enables the existing cable plant, previously used to distribute analog video, to provide digital bandwidth to the home. The increased digital bandwidth is essential for multiple current and future applications such as web browsing, data transfer, and both audio and video streaming for PCs.
