Bay Networks(R), Inc. (NYSE:BAY) today announced the appointment of John J. Poggi, Jr. to the position of vice president, general counsel and secretary, reporting to David Rynne, Bay Networks' executive vice president and chief financial officer. In his new role, Poggi will manage Bay Networks' business and legal services function.

Prior to entering private practice, Poggi was general counsel and secretary at Raynet Corporation, a Menlo Park, Calif.-based developer of innovative fiber optic technology for telecommunications systems in the local subscriber loop. Before that, he was vice president, corporate counsel and secretary for eight years at Spectra-Physics, Inc., a leading manufacturer of lasers, laser-based systems and analytical instruments in Mountain View, Calif.
