Bay Networks' Nautica line of ISDN products approved for EZ ISDN ordering code; CLAM and MARLIN are among the first products to past test for new consumer ISDN packing classification.

BILLERICA, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 30, 1996--Bay Networks, Inc. (NYSE:BAY), today announced that its Nautica line of ISDN products has been evaluated and approved by Bellcore for conformance with a number of ISDN Ordering Codes, including the brand-new "EZ ISDN" classification.

The Nautica CLAM and MARLIN, which were among the first products ever tested for "EZ ISDN," will seamlessly support users subscribing to standard ISDN offerings from the local telephone companies. Customers, who in the past have faced an array of variables associated with ordering ISDN service, will today be able to use a simple ordering code and know that their ISDN service will be compatible with Bay Networks' Nautica line of personal and branch office routers.

Bellcore, a leading provider of communications software and consulting services, administers a set of standards developed by the National ISDN Users Forum for classifying different ISDN connection features in order to make it simpler for RBOCs and ISDN customers to know what capabilities are bundled into different ISDN service packages. The process enables all parties to know which ISDN connectivity products will work well with which packages. The Nautica CLAM is registered against the Capability J and EZ ISDN 1 packages, and the Nautica MARLIN with Capability I and EZ ISDN 1. EZ ISDN 1, which allows both voice and data on an ISDN line plus a range of advanced telephony features, will increasingly serve as the default service package for most ISDN BRI lines.
