Bay Area School-Based Programs to Benefit from Tennyson West North American Open Squash Championship; Sports4Kids will receive $175,000 for physical activity and nutrition education programs for underserved youth in inner-city schools.

Sports4Kids provides support for children's' physical activity programs in 75 schools throughout the Bay Area, including 42 in Oakland, 12 in San Francisco, 9 in West Contra Costa Contra Costa can refer to:

According to Robin Lovell, a third grade teacher at Woodland Elementary School in Oakland, "The presence of Sports4Kids at our school has transformed the atmosphere at Woodland. Instead of hostility and fighting, our playground is full of spinning jump ropes, bouncing balls and active, engaged kids. We have soccer games, basketball games and even volleyball games, bridging the cultural gaps between our communities."

In addition to the Sports4Kids donation, sponsors will present the United States Squash Racquets Association with a grant of $20,000 to support USSRA USSRA United States Squash Racquets Association  squash programs for underserved youth.

Tennyson West established the Giving on the "T" Foundation to provide grants to Bay Area non-profits that serve disadvantaged youth. The Tennyson West North American Open is the primary vehicle for raising funds for the Foundation. Western Athletic Clubs has a long history of supporting non-profit community-based organizations and will match the money raised by Giving on the "T" dollar for dollar up to $100,000.

Qualifying rounds of the Tennyson West North American Open will be held at The University Club of San Francisco and The Pacific Athletic Club in Redwood City on Nov. 8-9. Qualifying players will move into the main draw at The San Francisco Bay Club beginning Thursday, Nov. 10. Total prize money is $20,000.

The squash tournament has a long and storied history, boasting such past winners as Sharif Khan, Mark Talbot and Jahangir Khan, the greatest squash player of all time.
