Latest Government Job Data Shows Bay Area Unemployment is Still Higher Than Other Major Metro Regions

SAN FRANCISCO -- According to the latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, unemployment figures in the Bay Area topped 10 percent in both June and July. And while those numbers are certainly bleak compared to 2008, Torchiana Mastrov & Sapiro (www.torchiana.com), the Bay Area's most experienced independent career management firm, says that the news isn't all bad for local workers and job seekers.

"The overall jobless numbers are certainly higher than they were last year, and it's important to remember that these aren't just abstract numbers - they represent real people who are suffering in a very bad economy," said company founder and president Bill Torchiana. "At the same time, however, the numbers don't tell the whole story because they don't look at specific sectors of the economy. In almost every sector there is work that needs to be done.
