An estimated 2 million children live with life-threatening illnesses in the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. The United States is the world's third largest country in population and the fourth largest country in area. . Ten percent of those seriously ill A patient is seriously ill when his or her illness is of such severity that there is cause for immediate concern but there is no imminent danger to life. Approximately 184,000 California children have a serious or terminal illness, and only a fraction are in a privately funded health care programs.

This session will host an audience of approximately 50 elected officials to discuss issues faced by families with seriously and terminally ill Terminally Ill

When a person is not expected to live more than 12 months.

The event is intended to draw attention to the immediate need for children's palliative healthcare reform by addressing key issues statewide - and nationally - impacting this most sensitive kind of healthcare.
