) today announced that Baxter Healthcare, a Forte customer, won a Computerworld Object Application Award for Best Application that Demonstrates Cost/Benefit of Using OT (Object Technology), at Object World West '96.

Baxter captured top honors in its category for ORION (Our Renal Information and Operation Network), an application based on the Forte Application Environment(TM), an integrated set of object-oriented tools for building, deploying and managing high-end client/server applications.

ORION is a customer service application supporting Baxter's $1.2 billion dialysis healthcare business. Deployed to approximately 200 users, ORION is an object-oriented application that integrates hospital, clinic, physician, employee, and product information for the Renal Division's 24,000 home patients. ORION replaces Baxter's 20-year-old mainframe system with a more scaleable multi-tier application See multitier application.  developed with Forte(TM).
