The engagement is an integral part of the Bavarian Ministry of Justice's "bajTECH 2000" project -- a far-reaching, three-year initiative to modernize mod·ern·ize

IT facilities. The project is the largest the Bavarian Ministry of Justice has undertaken since the Second World War, and will give it one of the most efficient IT infrastructures of any German government agency.

Under the terms of the three-year contract, which has an option for a two-year extension, Unisys will provide a full range of its Infrastructure Managed Services An umbrella term for third-party monitoring and maintaining of computers, networks and software. The Bavarian Ministry of Justice decided to outsource management of its IT infrastructure to a partner whose expert service personnel could provide complete operational management, relieving the Ministry of the need to hire and train additional IT personnel and enabling it to focus its own internal IT staff on strategic tasks. The Ministry selected Unisys after Europe-wide bidding.

"This project prepares our courts of justice and public attorney's offices for future demands. We will optimize our workflow and increase efficiency," said Dr. Manfred Weiss, Bavarian State Minister of Justice. "We intend to equip our workplaces with modern PCs and allied technologies to enable our judges, public prosecutors and judicial officers, as well as our service units, to capitalize on Cap´i`tal`ize on`

. This also positions the Ministry of Justice for full participation in the Bavarian government's broad eGovernment initiative. We will now be able to meet our objective of delivering court and administrative services electronically, extending citizens' capability to access government services online -- an area where we have already begun to have success in areas such as land registry."

Unisys will integrate and manage a completely new network infrastructure for the Bavarian Ministry of Justice, and will configure and deploy more than 12,000 new PCs and laptops, as well as several thousand printers, at Ministry offices throughout Bavaria. These will link to server computers at multiple locations throughout the state.

Unisys will provide comprehensive support services support services Psychology Non-health care-related ancillary services–eg, transportation, financial aid, support groups, homemaker services, respite services, and other services  for the infrastructure, including management of standardized standardized
