HIMELFIELD News Reporter SPARKS will fly and metal will twist when 100kg killer robots do battle in Huddersfield. Robots Live Robots Live is a robot combat touring show. The first show was held in Whitwick, Leicestershire at the Hermitage leisure centre, on Feb 10th & 11th, 2007. The Arena !, which features machines from the hit BBC BBC in full British Broadcasting Corp. Publicly financed broadcasting system in Britain. A private company at its founding in 1922, it was replaced by a public corporation under royal charter in 1927. series Robot Wars Robot Wars was a US based robot competition from 1994-1997, and is a British game show broadcast on BBC Two from 1997 until 2002, with a final series broadcast on Five in 2003. The show ran for nine series, including two 'Extreme' series. , comes to Huddersfield Sports Centre sports centre (Brit) sport n → centre sportif sports centre sport n → Sportzentrum nt , Southgate, on September 20 and 21. The show, which is touring the UK, includes TV favourites such as Tornado, Terrorhurtz, and Robot Wars World Champion; Storm 2. Some of the amazing machines were in Huddersfield at the weekend for a sneak preview. When they return later this month, the sports hall will be transformed into a battle zone with a giant four tonne arena enclosed in four metre high, bulletproof carbon screening. The show also features a high powered lighting rig and sound system. As well as known names, new contenders will battle for the title in a contest featuring around 40 robots. Alongside the heavyweights, 13kg "featherweights" will lock horns, as will six foot robot boxers. Visitors will have the chance to see Skeletron from the BBC's Technogames, which can drive a car and climb a five metre rope. Representing Kirklees is Andrew Kenworthy of Cleckheaton whose new machine is hoping to establish a name for itself. Robots Live! was established in 2001 by Mike Young, his wife Anne and two sons Alan and David. The family has built 20 robots since then, including machines which have featured on Robot Wars, Technogames and Channel Four's Scrapheap Challenge. Mike, 58, from Leicester, said: "Seeing 100kg robots colliding at 40mph and flying 15 feet in the air is pretty exciting. They're made of titanium so you get white sparks flying everywhere. "It's noisy and there's great lighting and sounds. It's a show like no other. "It's also a great way of getting aggression out of kids!"
