Battling asian longhorneds.


Sometimes to stop a beetle, you have to think like a beetle. At least that's the hope of the Agricultural Research Service, which has discovered adult Asian longhorned beetle Noun 1. Asian longhorned beetle - a beetle from China that has been found in the United States and is a threat to hardwood trees; lives inside the tree; no natural predators in the United States

Smith, who works at ARS's Beneficial Insects Introduction Research Laboratory in Newark, Delaware, made his finding during field studies in China, the beetle's home country.

Trees favored by the species can be planted or set out in pots in areas where the beetles are thought to be. These socalled "sentinel" trees can be treated with insecticide prior to its use.
