Battle of the bands.

This weekend V Festival will pack two sites in Chelmsford and Staffordshire. Among the bands on offer will be South Wales South Wales south nsud m du Pays de Galles  acts GLC and Red Light Company. We pitted them against each other in our festival questionnaire

GLC: EGGSY Q What's the worst festival experience you have ever had? "I once got some of that blue stuff from a chemical toilet chemical toilet

on me. It freaked me out so much that I thought it was going to burn through my skin and kill me so I started to panic. In the end nothing happened. I didn't even have a stain!"

Q The best festival headline set you have ever seen? "Rammstein in Switzerland. If you don't know what metal is, go and see Rammstein live. At one point they put the keyboard player in a giant cooking vat. They use more pyrotechnics pyrotechnics (pī'rōtĕk`nĭks, pī'rə–), technology of making and using fireworks. Gunpowder was used in fireworks by the Chinese as early as the 9th cent.  than any other show in rock history."

QYour coolest festival moment?

"Probably having Paul McCartney Noun 1. Paul McCartney - English rock star and bass guitarist and songwriter who with John Lennon wrote most of the music for the Beatles (born in 1942)

QFavourite festival clothing outfit?

"Shorts and a Pac-A-Mac. It's simple yet elegant and easy to chop and change the look for your environment."

QDo you stay sober at festivals or party hard?

"We often wake up at festivals feeling rough after a night of travelling, then we do the gig and get drunk. Amazing."

QFavourite festival band?

"Probably Rammstein but they don't play Britain that much, so I would say them or the Prodigy."

QWhat do you hate about festivals?

"Rain's the only problem - everything else is fine. Try having fun in a load of mud! Try it in the sun and it's amazing."

QCamping or hotels?

"Both. I have a pop-up tent and a reindeer hide rug. When you combine them it's like you're James Bond. Hotels are cool too but travel taverns aren't as exotic as my tent."

QEver met a musical hero at a festival?

"Probably spending the day with Bob Dylan on Ozzy Osbourne's tour bus was one of my best memories. Bob is super chilled out and we played dinosaur Top Trumps and I read some of John Steinbeck's Grapes of Wrath out loud to him. Lovely man and a real gent."

Q You get to curate CURATE, eccl. law. One who represents the incumbent of a church, person, or20 vicar, and takes care of the church, and performs divine service in his stead.  a festival.

Pick your three headliners.

RLC RLC Residual lung capacity : PAUL MELLON "Glastonbury last year when I spent the best part of the Sunday being ill and trying to get about at the same time while wearing wellies that were far too small for me."

"Smashing Pumpkins at Reading two years ago. They played pretty much everything you would want to hear at a Pumpkins show. Also it's the only show I've ever been to where there was an audible sigh of disappointment from 100,000 people when Billy Corgan announced that they were playing a song from the new record."

"We played to around 10,000 people at Summersonic Festival in Japan recently and it was absolutely amazing. We got completely mobbed after the shows, so much so that we had to be escorted from the festival site because there were too many people crowding round us. It was pretty cool to feel like we were big rock stars for a couple of days."

"Wellies, jeans/shorts, vest, cagoule. This is for British festivals mainly. Obviously you probably wouldn't need the cagoule or wellies if you went to a festival in a sunny country."

"Always party. At Glastonbury drinking generally started at 7am."

"The Flaming Lips are pretty hard to beat at a festival. All those colours and shapes and lights and men inside huge inflatable balls and people dressed as animals are amazing to watch."

"Hippies and the toilets, in that order."

"Both have their advantages. Obviously it's nice to have a proper bed and shower and all that but I also really like the atmosphere and parties that you find in the campsites at festivals. I think hotels would probably just edge it though, as there isn't much chance of a hotel getting stolen or of it blowing away in high winds."

"Yeah, I met my guitar hero Johnny Marr at Reading last year. It's great when you meet your heroes and they're not idiots. He's a legend and a super nice man as well. I had my picture taken with him like an embarrassing super-fan."

"Mogwai, because they're the greatest band in the world. Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds, because we saw them at Oxegen this year and they blew our tiny minds. Sunn sunn
