Barmies' musical maestro, Bill 'The Trumpet' Cooper (above), had the case for his instrument lifted by a member of the tourists' party when he turned up to serenade serenade [Ital. sera=evening], term used to designate several types of musical composition. Opera and song literature yield numerous examples of the serenade sung or played by a lover at night beneath his beloved's window; outstanding is  them in a playful stunt for TV. Fielding on the boundary on Saturday, Clark was taunted with good-natured chants of "Thief, thief, thief" by his Pommie fan club.

Asked about the missing trumpet case on Radio 5 Live, grinning Clark said: "I don't know what you're talking about." The Barmy Army later received intelligence about it being returned when the series was over.
