Battle at the wheel.

MOTORING organisations have leapt to the defence of women drivers, after reports that men were superior at the wheel.

Chief driving examiner Robin Cummins told the Sunday Times men had more natural ability and control and needed less teaching.

He said Driving Standards Agency pass rates showed women needed more time to pass, the rate for women 40% compared with men's 46%.

But motoring organisations disagreed. The British School of Motoring said they had no evidence of men learning faster than women or that there is a marked difference between the either sex learn to drive.
