ABOUT BTI A leader in the fields of electrochemical electrochemical /elec·tro·chem·i·cal/ (-kem´i-k'l) pertaining to interaction or interconversion of chemical and electrical energies. e·lec·tro·chem·i·cal adj. research and energy storage systems, BTI developed the RAM (TM) line of safe, long-life alkaline batteries that can be recharged 25 times and more. With the performance characteristics of alkalines - without the limitations of NiCads - RAM batteries can be recharged in as little as five hours, but nearly 80 per cent of their energy is returned within the first two to three hours. Furthermore, they are ideally suited for solar charging and BTI is researching these applications. BTI licenses this patented, mercury and cadmium-free technology and sells turnkey production lines to qualified manufacturers globally. The BTI Group of Companies offers complete entry into the battery market - including technological know-how, turnkey manufacturing facilities and marketing assistance. Its major focus is in small format rechargeable systems (AAA AAA: see American Automobile Association. (Triple A) A common single-cell battery used in a myriad of electronic devices of all variety. Like its double A (AA) cousin, it provides 1.5 volts of DC power. When used in series, the voltage is multiplied. , AA, C, and D cells) and on R&D into larger format energy storage systems. These batteries can be restored to full charge by the application of electrical energy. market. U.S. Military specifies RAM technology for field communication battery pack development tender BTI's RAM technology has caught the attention of the U.S. Military. In specifications for a contract to develop battery packs for field communication units, it specified RAM cells - invented and licensed for manufacture and distribution globally by Canada's BTI - must be used. The specifications make it likely that a member of the BTI Group, or one of its licensees will be awarded this development contract. The U.S. military has been researching BTI technology, with the company's co-operation, for about three years. Korean licensee Young Poong gearing up for new AAA line With a strong print and broadcast advertising campaign under way - and an AA line already producing its ALCAVA(TM) brand reusable alkaline manganese batteries using BTI's proprietary RAM technology. - BTIL BTIL Baltimore Technologies Investments Limited (London, UK) licensee Young Poong Corporation is anxiously awaiting delivery of its second line to manufacture the increasingly popular AAA format battery. In Canada, BTI and Young Poong are currently producing AAA batteries, demand for which is 70 per cent of the small format battery market in Korea, on the new manufacturing line. Soon, it will be disassembled, shipped to Korea and reassembled, in its new home in Ansung, near Seoul. The two production lines together will give the company an annual production capacity of more than 100 million cells. Two BTI executives recently returned from a visit to Young Poong's factory. They report that the facilities constructed and the team assembled by the company shows a strong commitment to the RAM technology. When discussions began between Young Poong and BTI, the Korean domestic market was determined to be 60 per cent AA and 40 per cent AAA format. Two years later, however, the ratio had changed dramatically to 70 per cent AAA and the balance AA. With this tremendous AAA growth, demand is projected to shortly outstrip out·strip tr.v. out·stripped, out·strip·ping, out·strips 1. To leave behind; outrun. 2. The Korean company is the third BTI Group licensee to bring RAM batteries to market. PURE ENERGY SALES NEWS Canada's Pure Energy Battery Corporation, the second licensee of BTI's RAM technology to be in commercial production, announced some exciting sales figures recently. Unit sales unit sales Sales measured in terms of physical units rather than dollars. Unit sales data are often used by financial analysts when evaluating the health of a company. volume for the first half of 1996 is triple that of the same period last year as a result of large volume sales to other BTIL licensees. The company has also started shipments of batteries and its newly-launched ENVIROCHARGER(R), capable of charging both AA and AAA cells, to Wal-Mart in Puerto Rico. GERMAN LICENSEE GETS STRONG OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) The rebranding of equipment and selling it. The term initially referred to the company that made the products (the "original" manufacturer), but eventually became widely used to refer to the organization that buys the products and INTEREST After attending three trade shows in the past three months, German licensee Battery Innovation Group received some positive feedback-hundred of inquiries from original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). Its business plan calls for distribution in Europe later this year, using BIG-branded cells manufactured in Canada by Pure Energy, with their own production plans to be finalized by year end. PORTA POWER DEVELOPING NEW CELL-PHONE BATTERY SYSTEMS Singapore distributor Porta Power, developer of the RAM battery pack being marketed in the Pacific Rim, is currently developing additional packs for other cellular-phone brands. It has also started to market its innovative ENERGY BANK(TM) charger and cellular phone battery packs in North America. BTI Update is published by Battery Technologies Inc.
