Battery Park's Tribeca Pointe wins city award for designers.Gruzen Samton, LLP LLP - Lower Layer Protocol , the prominent New York New York, state, United States New York, Middle Atlantic state of the United States. The award-winning property, named Tribeca Pointe, is a forty-two story residential tower located on a Battery Park City site adjacent to the new Stuyvesant High School Stuyvesant High School, commonly referred to as Stuy, is a New York City public high school that specializes in mathematics and science. The school opened in 1904 on Manhattan's East Side and moved to a new building in Battery Park City in 1992. . The awards program, created through a partnership between the AIA's Center for Livable Communities, the AIA AIA - Application Integration Architecture Housing Professional Interest Area, and HUD, recognizes the best in residential housing design, based on innovation, affordability, a accessibility. Tribeca Pointe is one of four residential buildings designed by Gruzen Samton in Battery Park City. Working within the exacting guidelines of the Battery Park City Authority The Hugh L. Carey Battery Park City Authority is a New York State public benefit corporation whose mission is to plan, create, co-ordinate and maintain a balanced community of commercial, residential, retail, and park space within its designated 92-acre site on the lower west side , the firm created a balanced mix (20 % affordable and 80% market-rate) of rental units that capitalize on the spectacular views of the Hudson river and the lower Manhattan skyline. For the building exterior, the architects selected brick, stone, and glass as materials in keeping with the Authority's guidelines for all structures in the community. Scott Keller, AIA, the Gruzen Samton partner who led the Tribeca Pointe design team, stated, "Our goal was to create a mixed-income neighborhood building that would succeed through its diverse uses and rich architectural character. The design process was a true collaboration between a developer, state authority, and architectural firm. Together we tried to capitalize on the tremendous opportunity of the magnificent site, while creating a human scale complimentary with the Battery Park City community." Tribeca Pointe contains 340 apartments ranging in size from studios to three-bedroom units. Building amenities include a rooftop solarium and terrace, a fitness club, and 1,000 SF of retail space on Chambers St. The building lobby features an impressive two-story space with panoramic views of the adjacent Nelson A. Rockefeller Park and the Hudson River. |
