Bates' death loss to game; BOWLS.


CROWN green bowls in Coventry suffered a massive blow last week with the death of Stoke Coventry's Bob Bates Bates   , Katherine Lee 1859-1929.

American educator and writer best known for her poem "America the Beautiful," written in 1893 and revised in 1904 and 1911.
, one of the game's best known characters.

Aged 67, Bob passed away at his home in the city and his funeral takes place on Friday at St Michael's Church in Walsgrave Road, at noon.

In his younger days before taking up bowls with Copsewood and then Stoke, Bob was a tough tackling full-back with the highly successful GEC GEC Gaseous Electronics Conference

Due to the funeral, the final of the Coventry Bowls League's over 60s has been moved forward to tomorrow at noon.
