Batelco to phase out telex service.
Batelco has announced that its telex service, which has been in operation for more than 30 years, will be phased out by the end of the year.
In spite of a number of challenges, including a lack of support from the Telex System providers and extreme difficulty in sourcing spare parts for this legacy system, Batelco had continued to offer the service to fulfil its customers' needs, said a statement.
However, recently the existing switching system for the service has now become totally obsolete making it impossible for Batelco to continue delivering a satisfactory service.
"We have explored many options including purchasing a new system to provide the service. Unfortunately, the cost of a new system combined with the small number of Batelco customers who still use the service, has made this option not commercially viable," said Batelco Group general manager, Media and Government Relations, Ahmed Al Janahi.- TradeArabia News Service
