The two companies reported on May 16 that as a result of the promotion 500,000 books would be provided to the First Book program.

Behind the cooperation of DreamWorks with Baskin-Robbins is the fact that the frozen desert chain is a promotional partner for the DreamWorks computer-animated comedy Shrek, which opened this month. Joe Adney, director of marketing for Baskin-Robbins, noted that "Partnering with DreamWorks to help celebrate their release of Shrek has been a great opportunity to combine the fun of ice cream through our new Shrek flavors with an exciting new theatrical event. Now, this partnership is opening even more doors to support children's literacy, a cause that Baskin-Robbins has made an ongoing commitment to support. With the help of DreamWorks, we believe we'll reach our goal to supply up to a half million books to First Book through Free Scoop Night."
