"Basic Biology" is a six volume series specifically written and designed by Denise Walker to introduce students in grades 7 through 12 to fundamental concepts of the biological sciences. Profusely illustrated with color photography and deftly written at an eighth grade reading level, each individual 64-page title includes a table of contents, an index, a glossary, diagrams, and activities. Children will learn the answers to a diversity of questions ranging from why people are of different sizes and shapes, the diversity of plant and animal species, the life cycles of animals, plants, and humans. The books (which are ideal as supplements for home schooling home schooling, the practice of teaching children in the home as an alternative to attending public or private elementary or high school. In most cases, one or both of the children's parents serve as the teachers. Like the charter school movement, home schooling usually arises from religious or other disenchantment with conventional public schools.
