Baseball: Olympic battle on.

Byline: From ALAN McKINLAY in Detroit

BASEBALL will appeal against the decision to drop the sport from the 2012 London Games - and the battle to restore its Olympic status has already started.

On Sunday, a world team beat the USA 4-0 in a game between the best young players.

And last night major league stars from eight different countries, including Atlanta Braves slugger Andruw Jones representing Holland, battled to become the home run king of the annual All Star Game.

Together with the World Baseball Classic to be staged in March, baseball is busy trying to establish itself as a worldwide sport.

Head of Major League Baseball International, Clive Russell, said: "We were shocked at the decision to drop it in 2012."
