Base rate collapse bad news for police.Byline: Maurice Fitzmauricej THE PSNI PSNI Police Service of Northern Ireland (UK) PSNI Pharmaceutical Society of Northern Ireland PSNI Professional Systems Network, Inc. reckons it's going to get around pounds 7.3million from the sale of a few dozen police stations. Shame they didn't put them on the market this time last year, they might have actually got enough money to put extra cops on the ground in the rural locations that look set to lose the bases. But the boys with all that money last year are now broke - and their property empires and private helicopters have been empounded. Any notion, though, that pounds 7million will translate into men and women on the ground seems a little optimistic. It might seem like a vast sum to most people besides Simon Cowell Simon Cowell (born 7 October, 1959) is a British artist and repertoire ("A&R") executive for Sony BMG in the United Kingdom and a television producer, more commonly known as a judge on television programmes such as Pop Idol, The X Factor, American Idol , but that kind of cash will disappear quicker than you can say "mobile patrol" in an organisation the size of the PSNI. The only high visibility about this plan will be the For Sale signs. WHAT DO YOU THINK? EMAIL See e-mail. m.fitzmaurice@mgn.co.uk |
