Manufacturing execution system (MES) describes a set of integrated functions within a packaged software system or it can also describe the accumulated functionality within the production management infrastructure of a manufacturing or production company.

It is both applicable to an Intranet, as well as the Internet, and can be used with any MES. It provides a method for remote access communication anywhere using Internet or Intranet browsers.

Further news from the U.S. Patent Office included issuance of two other patents for Base Ten's Manufacturing Execution Systems. U.S. patent 5,774,875 was issued to Base Ten on June 30, 1998 and relates to the use of portable memory devices for MES such as radio tags, and their associated communication devices in order to document the manufacturing process, thus permanently recording all manufacturing events.

The other allowed application is directed to a MES method for record keeping of manufacturing activities wherein a bar code label that includes an electronic signature is assigned to material to be processed. Data from the labels is stored in a main storage device, such as a client server, to achieve secure record keeping.
