Base Ten Systems, Inc. (NasdaqSC:BASEA) today announced the launch of a new business initiative, presented at the annual shareholders' meeting held on June 14, 2000.

Base Ten plans to offer a portal for the clinical supplies industry through its wholly-owned subsidiary, Activ Netsciences, Inc. Activ Netsciences plans to provide online access to validated business and scientific software solutions for this specialized and growing sector, initially focusing on labeling and distribution.

Base Ten believes that the clinical supplies industry represents a significant opportunity for web-based business applications. The industry can now enjoy a low cost alternative to buying software, eliminating the costs associated with installing, maintaining and validating a purchased package. Activ Netsciences's portal will provide web-based access to BASE10 CLS (formerly ADLS(R)), the industry-leading validated application for labeling. Payment will be on a "per use" basis. The site will also provide clinical industry news, and it is expected to serve as a platform for distribution management and a fully integrated web-based fulfillment service in the months ahead.

The portal is expected to enter prototype testing next month, and current plans call for the site to go live during the fourth quarter of fiscal 2000. Base Ten does not expect that web-based access to CLS will be required for the entire market; therefore online access will be offered as a complement to purchasing CLS, and not as a replacement. The Company intends to continue to market and sell its MES solutions through Base Ten.
