Barry YMCA men have medal-laden campaign; GYMNASTICS.BARRY YMCA YMCA in full Young Men's Christian Association Nonsectarian, nonpolitical Christian lay movement that aims to develop high standards of Christian character among its members. men's team has had an excellent opening season of competitions with a winning medal haul from June to October. The excitement began in Oslo, in the summer, at the Norwegian international event. The Welsh team was lead by Barry YMCA high performance coach Pete Haysham, with YMCA gymnasts Clinton Purnell and Nathan Mullett were selected to compete in the squad. In the individual competition Clinton Purnell placed second overall missing out on the gold medal by fractions. The results saw the boys qualify for various apparatus finals. Clinton qualified in first place in the floor final but a costly out of bounds error prevented him from medalling in the finals. He made a remarkable recovery placing first on vault and pommel pommel the high part at the front of the seat of the riding saddle. and third on high bar and rings. Nathan was second on rings, parallel bars parallel bars Event in men's gymnastics in which a pair of wooden bars supported horizontally above the floor at the same height is used to perform acrobatic feats. Competitors combine swings and vaults with stationary positions requiring strength and balance, though swings and high bar. The Welsh boy's wowed the crowds with some impressive skills and took the team silver. Ben Dennis and Joseph Rowland went on to compete in the finals and Joseph did exceptionally well to win the bronze medal on the parallel bars. Finally the boys wrapped up an excellent round of competitions with the Welsh Championships during October. In the under-10s, the Barry YMCA team consisting of Bradley Morgan, Llewelyn Brown, Christopher Webber and Jack Everest worked hard across all six pieces of equipment to finish second overall. Bradley achieved excellent rankings in the individual category where he finished second overall and first on rings and high bar. In the under-14s Iwan Mepham, Joseph Rowland, Ben Dennis and James Elliott came together to finish first overall. In the all around event the boys were outstanding taking first to fourth with Iwan as champion. He was Welsh champion on floor, vault and high bar and the titles of pommel horse pommel horse or side horse Gymnastics event for men. It uses a padded rectangular apparatus supported by legs and with two pommels (U-shaped handles) on the top. and rings were shared between Ben and Joseph with Joseph winning the parallel bar event. Life assisted the experienced Mullett, Purnell and Connor Lewis to the team title. Nathan was first in the all around competition with Clinton following in second and Connor fifth. Nathan became Welsh champion on parallel bar and runner-up on floor, pommel horse and high bar. Clinton was Welsh champion on rings, vault and high bar. Following these amazing achievements Haysham and gymnasts Mullett, Purnell, Mepham, Rowland, Dennis and Elliott have all been short-listed for a Welsh gymnastics award in a dinner at the Vale hotel on November 13 where their achievements will be recognised.
