Barry's U-turn over booze; Mailbag.IN his years as a representative of our fair town Barry Sheerman Barry John Sheerman (born 17 August 1940, Middlesex) is a politician in the United Kingdom. He is Labour and Co-operative Member of Parliament (MP) for Huddersfield. He was educated at the London School of Economics (BSc Economics 1965) and at London University (MSc 1967). has rarely voted against his own party. The record shows that his voting pattern matches two men in Parliament very closely, Tony Blair Noun 1. Tony Blair - British statesman who became prime minister in 1997 (born in 1953) Anthony Charles Lynton Blair, Blair and Gordon Brown. He has faithfully followed his leader over every important issue facing the nation. What has most angered me lately is Barry's stance on 24 hour drinking. When it now suits him he puts himself forward as the champion of responsible drinking. As ever, let the record speak for itself. He was a party loyalist when it came to the 2003 Licensing Act and was an opponent of Conservative moves to reform in 2005. The next election is an opportunity to elect an MP who will willingly stand up for this town and who is not afraid to oppose foolish legislation - not purely on political grounds - and will not hide behind a veneer of populism populism Political program or movement that champions the common person, usually by favourable contrast with an elite. Populism usually combines elements of the left and right, opposing large business and financial interests but also frequently being hostile to established . The time has come to send Barry into retirement and elect someone more in tune with the reality of the time. BERNARD MCGUIN Marsh |
