Barrington Announces Transaction for Jefferson City Television Station.


HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. -- Barrington Barrington, town (1990 pop. 15,849), Bristol co., E R.I., on the Barrington River; settled c.1670, included in Massachusetts until 1746, inc. 1770. It is a residential and resort area. Barrington College is there. Broadcasting Company announced today that it has agreed to purchase all of the assets of KRCG-TV, the CBS affiliate serving the Columbia-Jefferson City Jefferson City, city (1990 pop. 35,481), state capital and seat of Cole co., central Mo., on the south bank of the Missouri River, near the mouth of the Osage; inc. 1825. The state government is the major employer, but the city, with rail and river facilities, is also the commercial and processing center of an agricultural area. Machinery, construction materials, dairy products, furniture, and transportation equipment are produced., Missouri television market from Mel (Maya Embedded Language) See Maya. Wheeler, Inc., of Fort Worth, Texas. The transaction is subject to FCC approval.

In making the announcement, K. James Yager, Chief Executive Officer of Barrington, said "Mel Wheeler, Inc. has done an incredible job of building on the solid journalistic foundation started in 1955 by the same family who still manages the Jefferson City News Journal. Barrington Broadcasting was formed in 2003 to acquire and operate television stations in mid-sized markets across the country. Since 2004, Barrington has announced the purchase of three other networkaffiliated stations and one construction permit. The Barrington station portfolio includes an NBC in the Flint-Saginaw Saginaw Bay (c.60 mi/100 km long and 15–25 mi/24–40 km wide), an arm of Lake Huron. Bay City, a port, is located at the bayhead near the river's mouth, and Saginaw is located upstream. Coal, pig iron, salt, and oil are transported on the river., Michigan market, an ABC in the Peoria-Bloomington, Illinois market and a CBS in the Quincy, Illinois and Hannibal, Missouri television market in addition to a start-up WB in the Flint-Saginaw, Michigan market.
