Barringer Consumer Products signs seven distributors; begins direct TV marketing.

NEW PROVIDENCE, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--August 29, 1995-- Barringer Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ SMALL CAP: BARR, BARRW) announced today that its Barringer Consumer Products unit has signed distribution agreements for its BARRINGER DRUGALERT SYSTEM(TM), a home drug detection and identification kit, with seven domestic and international distributors.

The agreements cover the Caribbean, Central America and Mexico, as well as Australia and Ireland. Domestic distributors with territorial exclusivity have been signed for several key states including California and Florida.

Stanley Binder, CEO of Barringer Technologies also indicated that a direct marketing program, which includes a 60-second television commercial, began in its first test market last week. The BARRINGER DRUGALERT SYSTEM(TM) has a manufacturers suggested retail price of $29.95 plus shipping and handling.

The BARRINGER DRUGALERT SYSTEM(TM) is a consumer product designed to help concerned individuals determine, in the privacy of their own homes or workplaces, whether there is a presence of drugs. The product comes in "kit" form, containing a pre-moistened collector pad used to sample or test surfaces or areas for the presence of trace amounts of illegal drugs. The sample is then returned to Barringer for analysis. If a person is using drugs, microscopic amounts of the drug will typically be found on clothes worn, objects handled and areas occupied by that person. By collecting samples from these areas using the sample collector provided, drug residue will be collected and the specific drug substance will be detected and identified using IONSCAN analysis. The results are provided to the customer confidentially by phone or mail.
