NatureWorks LLC NatureWorks LLC is a stand-alone company, wholly owned by Cargill that produces a family of polymers derived entirely from annually renewable resources designed to compete with petroleum-based packaging materials and fibers. , Minnetonka, Minn., is exploring several barrier technologies including multilayer structures, coatings, and additives to improve the shelf-life performance of its polylactic acid polylactic acid /poly·lac·tic ac·id/ (-lak´tik) a hydrophobic hydroxy acid polymer that is formed into granules and used as a surgical dressing for dental extraction sites.  (PLA (Programmable Logic Array) A type of programmable logic chip (PLD) that contained arrays of programmable AND and OR gates.
