Barrick buys Placer Dome.
Canadian gold mining company Barrick took control of Pueblo Viejo
Corp. (formerly Rosario Dominicana) when it purchased multinational
Placer Dome, also Canadian, reports Diario Libre (Aug. 31, 2006).
Barrick has 27 mines and projects in five continents. This is the third
large Canadian company to change ownership in the country. The other two
are Verizon Dominicana and Falconbridge.
