This latest enhancement extends the Barracuda Spyware Firewall's ability beyond detection, identification and blocking of spyware at the gateway, to now include removal of malware from previously infected desktop computers.

The Barracuda Spyware Firewall effectively monitors all inbound and outbound network activity at the gateway, blocks malware, identifies all infected machines on the network and notifies the administrator. Once infected machines have been found, the new Barracuda Spyware Removal Tool allows administrators to scan for threats on the infected machine and then remove any malware. The Barracuda Spyware Firewall's extensive spyware and virus definition database is updated hourly via Barracuda Energize Updates, ensuring that the Barracuda Spyware Removal Tool is stopping the latest threats.

In addition, the Barracuda Spyware Firewall now shows the hostnames of infected machines, rather than just the IP address, when possible. This feature makes it more convenient for administrators to identify which machine is infected so that they can then apply the Spyware Removal Tool to remove the infection. Additional recent enhancements to the Barracuda Spyware Firewall include an application-blocking feature which enables the administrator to determine whether to block or allow certain applications such as, IM, media, tools and update applications.
