Barracuda Networks Adds Outbound Email Protection to Entire Barracuda Spam Firewall Line.

CUPERTINO, Calif. -- New Features Provide Powerful Outbound Spam and Virus Blocking Making it the Ideal Solution for Small to Medium Businesses

Barracuda Networks, Inc., the leading provider of enterprise-class spam firewall solutions, today announced the integration of its powerful outbound email filtering capabilities into the full Barracuda Spam Firewall line. Protection for outgoing email was previously offered only with the Barracuda Spam Firewall -- Outbound Mode product line, which launched earlier this year. With today's announcement, organizations can now ensure all outgoing email is legitimate and virus-free, while at the same time continuing to provide the same high quality protection for inbound email that they have come to depend on with the Barracuda Spam Firewall.

"We perfected our outbound email filtering capabilities with the Barracuda Spam Firewall -- Outbound Mode and have integrated the key features of this technology across all Barracuda Spam Firewall models," said Dean Drako, president and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of Barracuda Networks. "We believe the ability to filter inbound and outbound email in one appliance simultaneously will be especially beneficial for small and medium sized businesses that require essential, yet powerful and secure, outbound email capabilities."

Key outbound filtering techniques to be included with the full Barracuda Spam Firewall line include:

--Barracuda Networks Rate Control System for protection against open relays and zombie PCs within the corporate network

--Robust outbound email virus filtering

--Outbound email attachment scanning

--Corporate disclaimer attachments (footers)

--Secure email relays for traveling or remote workers (controlled by IP, domain, or email address and utilizing SASL 1. (language) SASL - St Andrews Static Language.
2. (networking) SASL - Simple Authentication and Security Layer.

SMTP defines the message format and the message transfer agent (MTA), which stores and forwards the mail.  Auth Proxy)

--Support for inbound and outbound SSL/TLS SSL/TLS Secure Socket Layer/Transport Security (IETF)  encryption

More advanced outbound email filtering capabilities including: outbound email quarantine, email compliance filtering for corporate policies and government regulations such as HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act of 1996, Public Law 104-191) Also known as the "Kennedy-Kassebaum Act," this U.S. law protects employees' health insurance coverage when they change or lose their jobs (Title I) and provides standards for patient health,  and Sarbanes Oxley, outbound keyword and regular expression scanning, and outbound whitelisting, will still be available exclusively with the Barracuda Spam Firewall -- Outbound Mode product line.

Such features are crucial for larger enterprises that require more comprehensive protection for outgoing email.

"For larger enterprises, many of which must adhere to corporate or regulatory policies, we believe the most effective architecture for outbound email protection is through a separate, more robust solution," said Drako. "As such, we will continue to offer the full Barracuda Spam Firewall -- Outbound Mode product line as an alternate approach for these customers outbound email filtering needs."

Outbound email filtering techniques will be immediately available for all new Barracuda Spam Firewall customers and will be made available for free to current customers via a firmware update to be released next week.
