Baroque's Bach bonus.

Easter and the magic of Johann Sebastian Bach ... Major works the Matthew Passion and John Passion can be heard all over the world at this time of year.

But on Sunday at Armitage Bridge the early music group Kirklees Baroque plays some of Bach's many shorter choral works for the Easter season
    Formerly known as Eastertide, the Easter Season comprises seven weeks following Easter Sunday.

    , including the magnificent cantata cantata (kəntä`tə) [Ital.,=sung], composite musical form similar to a short unacted opera or brief oratorio, developed in Italy in the baroque period.  Christ Lag In Todes Banden and Actus Tragicus, "the finest masterpiece of Bach's youth," says artistic diretor David Vickers.

    For the concert at St Paul's Church, David (an acknowledged expert on Handel, and regular critic for Gramophone) has devised a programme of early Bach cantatas.

    Kirklees Baroque has a blend of talented local musicians and enthusiastic specialists.
