Lead counsel Rick Nemeroff of the Dallas law firm Baron & Budd handled the case on behalf of the Robinson family with fellow Baron & Budd attorneys Ladd Gibke and Chris Panatier. Andy Lipton of Manley, Burke & Lipton provided local counsel for the plaintiffs. "We are truly grateful that the jurors saw this case for what it was," Mr. Nemeroff says. "NARCO knew about the deadly effects of asbestos fibers for many, many years before Mr. Robinson was exposed, but they did nothing to warn him or the other men and women who ultimately had to work with these products." As a rigger at the ARMCO Steel Plant in Hamilton, Mr. Robinson worked with several NARCO products that contained asbestos fibers, including Narcolite Lightweight Insulating Castables, Staz-On Insulating Cement and Unicote Finishing Cement. Jurors were told how Mr. Robinson initially was exposed to the asbestos-containing NARCO products in 1967 and 1968 before being drafted to fight in Vietnam. After returning from his tour of duty, Mr. Robinson returned to the ARMCO plant where he continued to be exposed to asbestos-containing NARCO products from 1970 to 1978. In November 1995, Mr. Robinson was diagnosed with the deadly cancer mesothelioma, a fatal disease caused solely by exposure to asbestos fibers. He died two years later at the age of 49, four days after Christmas in 1997. He is survived by his wife, Mary Jo, and two stepchildren, Angie and Jason. Defendant NARCO was represented by Steven Davis and David Peck of Cincinnati's Barron, Peck, Bennie & Katz, and Charles S. Warren of Pittsburgh's Heintzman, Warren, Wise & Fornella. Eric Mann of Cleveland's Benos, Cummings & Mann provided local counsel for the defense.
