Barnett Newman: Philadelphia's Museum of Art. (Philadelphia).


Beloved of intellectuals and artists alike, Newman himself was both, and historians and critics have often put his deceptively straightforward paintings into various elaborate frames: formalism, Minimalism minimalism, schools of contemporary art and music, with their origins in the 1960s, that have emphasized simplicity and objectivity.
